Kick off your holiday shopping this year with First Thursday in the Northrup King building. I'll be hosting Alexis Thompson again (host of the popular Jason & Alexis show on myTalk 107.1). Her knitted cowls were so popular, that I invited her back! I've had lots of people asking about buying them, so now's the time!

Snap*Crafted*Pop!

Join me at Snap*Crafted*Pop, the holiday pop-up shop created by Jen Knoch of Radar Concierge, for two-days of distinctive holiday shopping, celebrating unique Twin Cities' local artisans and crafters, some exhibiting for the first time. "This intimate shopping event has all the trappings of a holiday market," says Jen. "A stress-free, intimate experience that's designed for gals, guys—and even their four-legged friends."

We will be located in the charming South Minneapolis neighborhood of Linden Hills, in the former Bayers Hardware Store.

The "Snap" is provided by photographer Amber Johnson of Modern Life Photograph, who will be taking photos of four-legged friends as well as vintage-like kitsch photos of the human variety. Visit the Snap*Crafted*Pop website to pre-book your pet portrait.

The "Craft" is an amazing collection of local handmade gifts, cards and holiday trimmings, complete with a gift wrap station.

The "Pop" is for pop-up shop - and in true home-party fashion, you'll be welcomed by a greeter who will invite you in, take your coat and hand you a coffee or festive beverage while you shop. "Lingering is encouraged without the pressure of purchasing," the Radar Concierge host assures.

Maiden Minnesota

Maiden Minnesota is a fun, socializing and charitable shopping event featuring some of the best women-owned businesses in Minnesota. Spend the night with friends mingling and shopping for the wonderful products and services that keep usstylish and in love with Minnesota. More than 35 vendorswill show you their fashion, jewelry, accessories, home décor, specialty food items and more. The event will feature exclusive sales and merchandise, as well as a silent auction. Maiden Minnesota also helps support and raise awareness for Free Arts Minnesota, a local non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the healing powers of art and mentorship into the lives of abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families.

Ticketsare $20 in advanceor $30 at the door. $5 from each ticket goes directly to Free Arts Minnesota.

Its Sample Sale 2009 - Recession Style! This is going to be the biggest and best sample sale yet. I'm well stocked with discontinued items (including a couple of the Cocktail Ring styles that I'm retiring); samples (including early versions of the Lotus pieces); slightly irregular items (including some Color Bash necklaces and earrings); and much, much more. As always, everything on sale is at a super discount - most items are 50% off.

I'm also hosting my favorite handbag designer, Adrienne Grahn who will have lots of bags on sale, and Sean Tubridy will be selling out of all of his current merchandise at 30 - 50% off, just down the hall in Studio #272. If you're not familiar with his work, his website is worth a look. Or check out my mine - he designed both my website and my comic book catalog!

The Grand Hand Gallery will be hosting a trunk show the weekend before Valentine's Day. I will be featured along with fabulous local jewelry designer Emily Johnson. "Shop": A trunk sale at the Rochester Art Center

I'll be at the Rochester Art Center for this terrific event featuring a number of Minnesota artists who work in ceramics, jewelry, fiber and wood. Last year's event was great (despite some really bad weather) - so I predict that this year's will be even better.

Don't miss Art Attack this year - its going to be a great event! I'll be hosting two artists in my studio; handbag designer Adrienne Grahn and jewelry designer Tia Keobounpheng. We'll have a terrific selection of items in a wide range of prices that are perfect for holiday gift giving so you can get an early start on your shopping. Also note that if you can't make it Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we are also open for First Thursday on November 6, from 5 - 9PM, and most artists will be set up and open that night as well.

I am very excited to announce that I will be unveiling a brand new collection at Art Attack and I can't wait to show it off! Come and see what I've been working on all summer.

Also, a note about upcoming events: check back here regularly through the new year as I will be participating in a number of events including Maiden Minnesota (November 13 at the W Hotel), Shop: a Winter Trunk Show Event (December 7 at Rochester Art Center) as well as open studio hours on Saturdays during the holiday season.

Sample Sale

It has become a biannual event...the Sample Sale. The perfect chance to clear away the old and make way for the new before Art Attack (which will be November 7 - 9). Adrienne and I will, as always, have some leftovers, discontinued items and slightly-off items among our bargains. What's new for this sale? As many of you may know, I've been experimenting with laser-cut plastic. And experimentation means plenty of styles that don't end up in production. You'll find lots of fun acrylic pieces in the $5 - $20 range. As always, the sale will be at my studio, so come early and bring your friends!

Fall Flair Runway Show

saturday, Sept 20 @ La Bodega Tapas Bar
doors 6pm; $5

This fabulous runway event will feature the fall collections of fashion designers Arwyn Birch, Amanda Christine and Emily Weich, handbag designer Adrienne Grahn and jewelry designers Karin Jacobson and Tia Keobounpheng. You can expect lots of lace and tulle in Emily's formal, fall collection of dresses and skirts. As always Arwyn will deliver comfortable, classic silouhettes combined with stylish fabrics. Amanda Christine's designs are full of soft knits and draped wovens. Accessorizing the event will be purses by Adrienne; expect crocodile, ostrich and cow hide incorporated into these new fall bags. Karin will be introducing her new line of plastic jewelry full of bright 80's colors and big graphic designs. Tia's designs incorporate laser cut acrylic and wood and have a modern Scandinavian style. Wine specials and tapas available all night.

What could be more perfect for your summer wardrobe than some big, new, graphic jewelry in laser cut acrylic and wood?

Some of you may know that I've been experimenting with laser cut acrylic and have been coming up with some fun new work. Well, I've also found a fabulous new friend who makes amazing work in laser cut wood and acrylic. I met Tia Keobounpheng of Silver Cocoon at the Walker Art Center's trunk show this spring (she also sells at the Walker Shop) and fell in love with her jewelry. Check out her blog and work in the photo on the right. I'm very happy to be hosting Tia for a trunk show, here in my studio.

Art-A-Whirl

Can you believe its already time for Art-a-Whirl again? This is surely the biggest, most fun event of the year in Northeast Minneapolis. Studios all over NE will be open, and the Northrup King Building will be full to capacity with all of its regular tenant artists and lots of guests. I will be hosting two artists: handbag designer Adrienne Grahn and printmaker Keiko Yagishita, and we will all have new work to show. Also, when you come to the NKB, don't forget to register to win $500 in Art Bucks. The winner can use their Art Bucks to purchase artwork from any participating artist(s).

Walker Art Center Trunk Show

Just in time for Mother's Day! Don't miss the Walker's jewelry trunk show this Saturday. It won't just be me but a whole group of local jewelry artists located upstairs in the Sky Room. This is the first event of its kind at the Walker, but if it goes well, they will do it again. Stop by and say hello!

Sample Sale

Its that time of the year again. Spring cleaning means its time for the spring sample sale! Adrienne Grahn (recently featured at Voltage, Fashion Amplified fashion show at First Avenue) and I are preparing for Art A Whirl by cleaning out old inventory to make way for new. Prices at or below wholesale, so come to my studio in the Northrup King and bring your friends!
